What's Your "Crazy Idea"?

Recently, I attended a taping of a pilot of a radio show which hopes to be pitched to broadcast markets. The person who conceived the show said it was a "crazy idea" he had to combine music, theology, literature and conversation. 

For those of us who were at the taping, it wasn't a crazy idea at all. It worked. It was truly unique and captivating, and the audience gave it a wildly enthusiastic response. I hope this program does make it to the airwaves.

Do you have an idea floating around for something that you want to do, but feel held back because you're afraid it won't be accepted? Or, perhaps you have a gift or talent that you've used in the past with some success but haven't done anything with in some time, and you'd like to give it a try again...and you're feeling uncertain if there would be any interest.

Consider this: how would you know whether or not people would be interested in what you have to share without at least putting a feeler out there?  Also, think about how fulfilling and exciting it would feel if you did it just once...even if it's sharing it with a few people. The result could surprise you.

I realize that in the entertainment field, so many creative decisions are predicated on whether or not there is a sufficient audience (and yeah, how much money it takes). Yet, imagine if the people involved with the radio pilot decided not to go forward and at least give one show a try. They would have cheated themselves out of a wonderful experience of just having done it...and we audience members would have missed something very special.  

So, before you say "naahh--crazy idea" about your dream because you're not sure anyone will get it, think about: what if someone out there did get it?  Whether it turns out to be ongoing or a one time thing, don't pass up a chance to do the dream because of fear or doubt. 

Doing what you love isn't crazy...it's bliss.   Follow it and enjoy the journey it takes you on.
