Shine...When It's Dark Let's pretend for a moment you are a night light...the type you might plug into your bedroom or hotel room. If you're on during the day, you might not get noticed amidst the bright sunshine or the larger lights in the living room. But when night falls and big lights get turned off, it can get mighty dark. Sometimes it's hard to find your way from room to room, or to find that light switch in the middle of the night. But that's where you, the night light, come in. You shine just enough light so that someone can see their way through the darkness. Your light is a comforting, welcome and indispensable one. Some people come on like great big lights, and some of us are more like night lights. Night lighters can get swallowed up sometimes when the big light types shine too brightly, and we wonder if we should even try to shine at all. But it's all about knowing our worth and where our strengths are used. In the right environment, the little lights have their moments to shine. And you know, those big lights can burn out fast sometimes if they are left on for too long. Just remember that Donna Fargo country hit from years back: "you can't be a beacon if your light don't shine, there's a little light in all of us by God's design". In this season which brings us many images of light, may you be a beacon of light in the world...and let the light of encouragement finds it way into your life as well. ---Wendy V |
